Croatian midfielder Luka Modric becomes the latest player to extend his contract with Real Madrid

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has signed a new contract with Real Madrid, the Spanish club has announced.

Modric’s contract extension until June 2020 follows hot on the heels of fellow midfielder Toni Kroos, who last week extended his stay in the Spanish capital till 2022.

A short statement released by the club read: "Real Madrid and Luka Modric have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract with the club until June 30, 2020."

The Croatian has become an integral part of the Madrid side since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2012.

The European champions are likely turn their attentions to securing the future of another former Spurs player in Gareth Bale, who has been rumoured to be close to agreeing a new contract with the club.
