New Derby County signing Andreas Weimann is keen to get started with his new club ahead of the new Championship season
One man who is excited to lace up his boots and pull up his football socks ahead of the new Championship season is former Premier League star Andreas Weimann.
The Austrian forward joined Derby County earlier on in June for an undisclosed fee and is set to do everything he can in his power to aid the Rams to another promotion charge this up and coming season after the club narrowly missed out on the play-offs this season. This comes after Derby had led the division for the majority of the season but then collapsed during the climax of the campaign under the management of then manager, Steve McClaren.
Having experienced a lack of opportunity during last season’s Premier League campaign for Aston Villa, the 23-year-old is ripe and ready for the new Championship season and is raring to go. Weimann naturally played as a striker for the Midlands outfit last term but has the capability of playing down both wings making him a very versatile commodity.
Tweeting ahead of the new season, Weimann said “Back to England after a nice family holiday in Portugal - can't wait to get started at my new club tomorrow #nextchapter.”
Weimann will hope to feature in Derby’s first game of the season as the Rams will pay Bolton Wanderers a visit on 8th August.
