Back Barca to make it seven wins in a row in La Liga by a small margin on Wednesday
Sporting Gijon host Barcelona in La Liga on Wednesday trading as bet365’s 16/1 underdogs to score a shock victory which would go a long way towards ensuring their survival from relegation.
It is extremely difficult to identify any value in this price.
For as impressive as Sporting have been in winning two and drawing two of their last four matches in La Liga in order to push two points clear of the drop-zone and up as high as 15th in the table, they have still only won six of 23 league matches all season, losing 12, and, in Barca, face one of the form sides in all of Europe.
Luis Enrique’s team’s 6-1 thumping of Celta Vigo last weekend marked the occasion of their 30th match unbeaten in all competitions since losing at Sevilla on 3 October.
The Catalans have won 24 times in that sequence and they have won each of their last six La Liga fixtures on the spin, scoring 17 goals.
In this context odds of 1/8 on a road win already begin to seem justified and backing the favourites takes on more value when one accounts for the fact that Sporting have lost four and drawn three of their last 10 home league fixtures.
It is also notable that Barca have won 13 of the clubs’ last 15 meetings, drawing two.
Barca will win this; however, the fact that they have only netted once in each of their last three visits to Gijon (W2) and have a long sequence of big fixtures coming up over the next month suggests that it may not be a rout.
Back an away win to nil and -2.5 goals at 20/21 and 13/5 with 23 goal Luis Suarez tempting as a first scorer bet at 2/1 having opened seven times in the league this term.
